Maruti Ciaz & Maruti Eritga Likely To Get A Toyota Badge Soon

Maruti Ciaz & Maruti Eritga Likely To Get A Toyota Badge Soon | V3Cars

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota got into a JV back in 2017 aimed at co-developing and launching mass-market cars in India including EVs. Toyota Glanza was the first product from the JV which went on sale in 2019 followed by the launch of the Toyota Urban Cruiser in 2020. While the Glanza was a rebadged version of the Baleno, the Urban Cruiser was the rebadged Vitara Brezza. Now, Toyota is all set to add more Maruti cars to its portfolio including the Maruti Ciaz and the Ertiga MPV.

Toyota Ertiga

While there is no official confirmation from the carmaker, a set of images suggest their imminent launch. The images show a redesigned front grille for Ciaz and Ertiga with a Toyota badge. This cosmetic change is in line with other rebadged products like Glanz and Urban Cruiser which also feature a different grille compared to their original versions.

While the new grille for the Toyota branded Ciaz looks similar to the original Maruti grille save for the new Toyota badge, the rebadged Eritga will get a horizontally slatted grille instead of the chrome studded unit seen on the Maruti Ertiga. Save for the new grilles and brand logos, both the Toyota badged cars are expected to look identical to the original Maruti cars.

Similarly, on the inside, the only visible change will come in the form of brand logos on the steering wheel.

Under the hood as well both the Toyota cars will be identical to their Maruti counterparts. Both are powered by the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 105PS and 138Nm paired to a 5-speed MT and a 4-speed AT. Toyota & Maruti offer the same setup on Vitara Brezza and Urban Cruiser as well.

Not only the looks and engines but the two Toyota cars will also be identical to their Maruti counterparts in terms of features as well. Both cars are equipped with features like auto headlamps (Ciaz gets LED while Ertiga comes with halogen units), rain-sensing wipers, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto AC with rear AC vents, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and a mild hybrid system.

As far as product placement is concerned, the Toyota badged Maruti Ciaz is expected to replace the Yaris in Toyota’s lineup and the Ertiga can be placed as a more affordable entry-point into Toyota’s world of MPVs. Currently, Toyota offers two MPVs in India including the Innova Crysta and the Vellfire

Toyota is expected to launch the rebadged Ciaz and the Eritga in the coming few months starting with the Ciaz. They will be priced similar to their Maruti counterparts. Where the Maruti Ciaz retails from Rs 8.52 lakh to Rs 11.50 lakh, the Eritga is priced from Rs 7.81 lakh to Rs 10.59 lakh (All prices ex-showroom Delhi).
