Mahindra Scorpio Achieves 9 Lakh Unit Sales | V3Cars
Mahindra Scorpio is one of the most-popular nameplates in the country and the home-grown SUV has just crossed 9 lakh sales. Read on to know more about the Scorpio’s journey in India.
Mahindra Scorpio Nameplate Crosses 9 Lakh Sales
The Scorpio nameplate made its debut in June 2002 and after being on sale for over 2 decades and receiving multiple updates, the Scorpio has crossed the 9 lakh unit sales milestone. The milestone achievement combines the sales of all Scorpio iterations, including the Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N.

It is worth mentioning that the Scorpio is still the 2nd best-selling Mahindra ever, since the Bolero continues to lead the charts with lifetime sales upwards of 14 lakh. The new Scorpio N is currently one of the hottest selling Mahindra SUVs and commands a waiting period of over a year for select variants. Its predecessor, which is on sale as the Scorpio Classic, is also posting strong sales thanks to its cult fanbase.
Reports suggest that the Scorpio models — which include the Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic — currently hold 1,00,000 pending orders. With an average sales figure of 8,000 unit a month and plans for expanding production, the Scorpio SUV is likely to cross the 1 million sales milestone next year.

While the Mahindra Scorpio Classic is a diesel-only offering, the Scorpio N comes with both petrol and diesel engine options. The 2.2L turbo diesel engine produces 175PS of power at 3500rpm and up to 400Nm of torque between 1750rpm and 2750rpm. The 2.0L turbo petrol engine produces 203PS of power at 5000rpm and 380Nm of torque between 1750rpm and 3000rpm. Both engines come with a choice of 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. However, only the diesel engine offers the option of 4-wheel-drive.
