Mahindra Could Source Batteries For Next-Gen Electric SUVs From BYD

Mahindra Likely To Source Batteries From BYD For Next-Gen EVs | V3Cars

When Mahindra showcased their new range of EVs on August 15, 2022, they also announced that they will use Blade and Prismatic batteries for this lineup. It’s worth noting that the Blade batteries are also a variation of prismatic form factor. So far, all our research on the Blade battery geometry points towards BYD as the only manufacturer that makes blade-style batteries. It’s unclear at the moment whether BYD will make these batteries for Mahindra in India or import them from one of their plants outside India.

Given the high volume of batteries Mahindra might need to meet the demand for their next-generation EVs, we expect BYD to set up a manufacturing facility in India for their Blade battery. Made-in-India battery packs will also help them price their batteries better because of the tax breaks for local production.

On August 15, 2022, Mahindra showcased 5 new electric SUVs on the brand new platform dedicated to electric vehicles. 2 of those will go on sale under the new B.E. sub-brand while 3 will carry Mahindra’s familiar twin-peaks logo. Just like other dedicated battery-electric car platforms, Mahindra’s platform for its next-gen electric cars is also flexible enough to allow different wheelbases, widths, lengths and overhangs.
