Mahindra’s Lead In B2-SUV Space Will Come To An End Soon - Opinion | V3Cars

When you think of Mahindra’s SUVs, which ones come to your mind? The XUV700? The Scorpio N? The Thar! Perhaps the XUV300 might pop up in your mind. But the Bolero is probably not on your list if you’re shopping for a small SUV. Despite the lack of interest in the Bolero and Bolero Neo from city dwellers, it remains a strong seller in Mahindra’s stable. It even helps Mahindra lead the B2-SUV space after you bundle it up with the XUV300 and Thar’s monthly sales figures.

Refer the following table of 6-month sales (Sep 2022 - Feb 2023) and average of B2-segment SUV sales:

Mahindra comes out on top by a healthy margin with Tata Motors in 2nd spot and Maruti Suzuki in the 3rd. There’s practically little to no marketing expense Mahindra have to spare for the Bolero and Bolero Neo. Its demand remains strong in smaller cities and rural areas as the SUV has a strong word-of-mouth marketing among its potential customers.

Everything Is About To Change

This may be the end of Mahindra’s dominance in the B2-SUV space. Maruti Suzuki have 2 more SUVs planned in this space - the Jimny off-roader and Fronx crossover. The sheer number of sales outlets Maruti Suzuki have in the country alone makes them an easy choice for most SUV buyers. Even if their upcoming cars end up underperforming by Maruti Suzuki standards, they’ll still have no trouble grabbing the top spot from Mahindra in this segment.
