Kia’s New Car Coming In Early 2022; Likely An SUV | V3Cars

Kia has confirmed that it will enter a new segment in early 2022. The carmaker has not announced the segment to which the new car will belong, however, the official presentation suggests that the upcoming car could be an SUV.

Kia

A Kia SUV was spotted testing earlier this month. Although it was heavily camouflaged, its side profile hinted at three rows of seating. The upcoming SUV is expected to be underpinned by the same platform that underpins the Seltos, Creta and the upcoming Alcazar. It will not be a surprise if Kia’s new SUV turns out to be its version of the Hyundai Alcazar.

If this happens to be true then expect the new Kia SUV to share most of its elements with the Seltos and Alcazar. Under the hood, it should borrow engines from the Alcazar, which is available with a 2.0-litre petrol engine (159PS/191Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel engine (115PS/250Nm). Both the engines are offered with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

The Kia SUV should be similar to the Alcazar in terms of dimensions as well. Although Hyundai has not revealed the Alcazar’s dimensions, but it has confirmed a wheelbase of 2760mm, 130mm longer than the Creta and Seltos, for the upcoming SUV.

In terms of interiors and features, the new Kia SUV is expected to replicate the Seltos. Expect it to get features like upto 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, 7-inch driver’s display, Bose sound system, ambient lighting, air purifier, electric sunroof, front and rear parking sensors, hill launch assist and electronic stability control.

Talking about the design, from what we have seen in the spy shots, it will feature unique styling, at least at the front. It should get slim headlamps with L shaped DRLs, dual-tone alloy wheels, roof rails and body cladding around the wheel arches.

With the launch scheduled for early 2022, Kia might showcase its 7 seater offering by the end of this year. Once launched, it will take on the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV700 and the Tata Safari.
