Kia EV4 eSUV Spotted – To Rival Upcoming Maruti EVX, Mahindra BE.05 | V3Cars
After unveiling the production-spec version of the Kia EV9 electric SUV earlier this year, Kia are now developing a smaller electric SUV to launch in India and European markets. The Kia EV4 compact SUV was recently spotted testing, giving us a few clues about Kia’s rival to the upcoming Maruti Suzuki EVX and Mahindra BE.05. Read on to know more
Kia EV4 Spotted Testing
First off, the spy shots of the Kia EV4 give us a clue about the size and segment of the SUV. A quick glance at the spy shots suggest that the upcoming Kia EV4 will be a compact SUV and likely to be a C-segment offering. While the Seltos facelift is currently Kia’s C-segment offering in the country, the EV4 could soon join the segment as an all-electric alternative to the Seltos. That would also put it up against the upcoming Maruti Suzuki EVX, which was unveiled in its concept form at the 2023 Auto Expo.
Currently, Kia offer the Niro EV, Soul EV and EV6 across various global markets. These 3 EVs will soon be joined by the EV9 SUV. Meanwhile, Kia are all set to take the wraps off of the Kia EV5 SUV on August 25. While the SUV that was spotted recently features many of the design elements from the EV9 and teaser images of the EV5, it looks a size smaller than the latter and also features different door pillars. This leads us to believe that the electric SUV that was spotted testing could be the EV4 which would sit below the EV5 when launched. In fact, the test mule seems to be the same size as the recently-launched Seltos facelift.

Other details that are visible from the spy shots are the cutouts for the front parking sensors and a radar module for the advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). The test mule was also seen wearing production-spec aero-efficient wheels and at the rear, the design of the taillamps seem to keep in line with those in the EV6 and EV9.
We expect the production-spec Kia EV4 to feature a minimalistic interior similar to the one seen in the EV6 sold in India. However, the EV4 will feature most of the modern gadgets found in electric cars these days. So you can expect a high resolution touchscreen for the infotainment system and various other controls and a large digital instrument cluster for the driver.
The production-spec version of the Kia EV4 could feature a 50 - 60kWh battery to help the electric SUV deliver a range of around 500km on a single charge. We expect Kia to give the EV4 a front-mounted single motor layout to keep costs in check. This electric powertrain could later find its way into the Hyundai Creta EV as well. When launched, which is likely in 2025, the EV4 from Kia will rival the likes of the production-spec verison of the Maruti Suzuki EVX and Mahindra BE.05.
