Honda Cars India will soon launch the City hybrid, making it the first mass-market hybrid sedan in India. The Honda City Hybrid launch was delayed due to the outbreak of Coronavirus and we now expect it to launch by July 2022.

2022 Honda City Hybrid

As per rumours, the City Hybrid is nearing its production form. The Honda City Hybrid is already on sale in the Thai market in the RS trim. Earlier, we expected Honda to launch the City RS with a 1.0L turbo petrol engine. But as per the recent development, Honda could offer the CIty Hybrid with the RS body kit.

City Hybrid

The Honda City Hybrid boasts a strong hybrid setup, unlike what we have seen in Maruti Suzuki cars. It gets a 1.5L petrol engine which produces 98PS of power and 127Nm of torque. The engine is mated to two electric motors. While the first one acts as an integrated starter generator, the other one powers the engine. The power and torque output from the electric motor stand at 109PS and 253Nm respectively.

The Honda City Hybrid will become the most fuel-efficient mass-market car in the Indian market. In Malaysia, the City Hybrid boasts a claimed fuel efficiency of 27.7kmpl. Interestingly, the City Hybrid can also run E20 fuel, which could make it the first E20-compatible car in the Indian market. In the coming years, the Union government will make E20 fuel mandatory for new vehicles. Currently, our local fuel sports 10% Ethanol.

City Hybrid

The Honda City Hybrid could be brought to India via the CBU route. As the Indian government does not offer any subsidies or rebates on hybrid vehicles, the City Hybrid will be priced on the higher side. We expect Honda Cars India to price the City Hybrid in the range of Rs. 18 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
