Exclusive BYD E6 Electric MPV Spotted Testing | V3Cars

The V3Cars team recently spotted a BYD E6 electric MPV testing in NCR. The blue specimen had alloy wheels, halogen projector headlamps, and LED tail lamps. Pictures of the BYD E6 have surfaced before as well. The latest spotting tells us that the MPV is on the cards for launch in India.

For those who don’t know, this BYD E6 version is the second generation model of the MPV. Surprisingly, this MPV is a 5-seater with a massive 580-litre boot space and not a 7-seater. Considering the Indian market, we can expect the car to come with a 3-row layout instead of 2-rows. Moreover, we may even get the option of captain seats in the second row.

The E6 is longer than the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra Marazzo and even the Tata Safari. The BYD E6 should have no trouble accommodating a bench for 3 extra passengers to make it India-friendly.

BYD E6 Electric MPV Interior

It’s worth noting that the E6 archives the phenomenal 500km+ range from the massive 71.7kWh battery pack. This is almost 3X of what’s available in the Tigor EV. because of this, the E6 also weighs almost 2 tonnes. With a full load, this car should manage to deliver around 400-450km per charge.

BYD E6 Features

Here’s a look at the features of the BYD E6:

  • Front-wheel drive
  • Front and rear disc brakes
  • 10.1-inch rotating infotainment system
  • Steering-mounted controls
  • Electronic parking brake
  • Auto AC
  • Rear AC vents
  • Keyless entry and go
  • Front armrests

The E6 doesn’t get cruise control, rear armrest, power driver and front passenger seats and LED headlights.

BYD E6 Price - Expected

If the E6 will have to compete with established rivals like the Maruti XL6, Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and Hector Plus. The lack of SUV styling and a small list of features are big turn-offs for buyers in this price range. Moreover, the E6 doesn’t have a 3-row seating option

However, there’s another market for smooth, quiet, spacious cars with large boot spaces and just-enough features - it’s the hospitality sector. Hotels often look for ways to impress their guests with high-tech cars, that can move them around for business and leisure and haul luggage to and from the airports. Such vehicles are always chauffeur-driven and therefore don’t need a lot of features. While meeting all of these criteria, if the car also manages to save the business some cash on fuel and maintenance expenses then, it’s the final cherry on the cake.

BYD E6 Electric MPV

Only time will tell if BYD will bring the E6 MPV to market for personal use or limit the sales to B2B customers. They better add rear armrests before they decide to sell this car in India.

Keeping all of these factors in mind, we expect the BYD E6 to cost around Rs. 20 - 25 lakh. While it’s difficult to justify such a price tag for a car without some essential features, somebody will have to pay the price for the ginormous battery pack.
