Camouflaged Nissan Ariya EV Spotted On Indian Roads | V3Cars
The Nissan Ariya electric coupe SUV was spotted yet again on our roads and this time, it was wearing heavy camouflage. Read on to know more about the Ariya EV and Nissan’s future plans for the Indian market.
Nissan Ariya EV Spotted On Test Again
The Nissan Ariya EV is the brand’s latest electric vehicle for the global market. It went on sale in various international markets in 2020 and it was spotted on our roads for the first time earlier this year. The Ariya EV was spotted on test again recently wearing heavy camouflage. Since Nissan are testing the Ariya EV, can we expect the Japanese carmaker to launch its electric coupe SUV in India?

Well, it seems unlikely for now. Starting with Renault-Nissan's future launch roadmap, Nissan will launch an A-segment electric hatchback in 2026. It will sit on a shared platform that Renault will also use for a similarly-sized electric vehicle. Apart from that, Nissan plan to launch 2 all-new C-segment SUVs, likely with different body styles.
Hence, it seems unlikely for Nissan to deviate from their recently-revealed roadmap and launch the Ariya EV. If we assume that Nissan may plan to launch the Ariya EV as a completely built unit (CBU), it will cost upwards of Rs. 50 lakh (ex-showroom). At that price point, it will compete against other premium electric vehicles like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Volvo XC40 Recharge and Kia EV6. The Ariya EV is unlikely to appeal to potential buyers when other options are present from more-established carmakers like Hyundai and Kia.

Speaking of its powertrain figures, Nissan offer the Ariya with a choice of 2 battery pack options — 63kWh and 87kWh. The battery packs comes with both 2- and 4-wheel drivetrain options. The 4-wheel drivetrain offers 306PS of power and 600Nm of torque. It can do the 0-100kmph sprint in 5.7 seconds while the top speed is limited to 200kmph. The 4-wheel-drive variants with the bigger 87kWh battery pack offer a claimed range of over 500km on a single charge.
