Audi recently launched the A8 L in the Indian market with prices starting from Rs. 1.29 crore ex-showroom. The A8 L goes up against well-established rivals like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the BMW 7-Series. It is interesting to note that all 3 German sedans are on offer in their long wheelbase versions in India. We put the Audi A8 L against its rivals to know which one has the upper hand.

As you can see in the table above, the A8 L is longer than both the S-Class and 7-Series. However, the S-Class offers the longest wheelbase while the 7-Series is the widest of the lot. Surprisingly, it's the A8 L with the shortest wheelbase among the trio.

Audi India offer the A8 L with a 3.0L V6 turbo petrol engine. It produces 340PS of power and 500Nm of torque @ 1370-4500rpm. It comes with an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive. On the other hand, both the S-Class and 7-Series come with diesel and petrol engine options whereas the 7 extends its lead with a plug-in-hybrid option as well.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class comes with a pair of 3.0L diesel and petrol engine options. Its 3.0L turbo diesel engine produces 286PS of power and 600Nm of torque whereas the 3.0L turbo petrol engine produces 367PS of power and 500Nm of torque. It comes with an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive.

The BMW 7-Series comes with a 3.0L turbo petrol, 3.0L turbo diesel and 3.0L turbo petrol with plug-in-hybrid. The 3.0L turbo petrol produces 340PS & 450Nm, the 3.0L turbo diesel produces 265PS and 620Nm and the 3.0L turbo petrol plug-in-hybrid produces 609PS and 850Nm.
