2024 Skoda Superb: What’s New?

Although the next generation Skoda Superb D1-segment sedan was caught testing wearing heavy camouflage, the images reveal a few key details. The new Superb sedan for 2024 is unlikely to feature Skoda’s new design language that was previewed by the Vision 7S concept last year. Instead, Skoda are utilising an evolutionary approach for the design of the new Superb sedan. While at first glance, the Superb test mule does look like the current Superb, which was recently discontinued in India, a closer look reveals a few changes like a larger grille, slimmer headlight and taillights and dual exhaust outlets.

The profile shots of the 2024 Skoda Superb reveals the character line, which has moved lower ever so slightly. Other changes include a new positioning for the ORVMs. The new mirrors are mounted on the doors just under the window line. Bits that are retained include the trademark kink for the rear quarter glass and the shark fin antenna.

2024 Skoda Superb: Powertrain Options And India Launch Details

The India-spec Skoda Superb was only offered with a single engine option – the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol – towards the end of its life. The powertrain in the Superb, codenamed EA888 evo3 DQ-381-7F, was not updated to comply with BS6 Phase-2 norms. However, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India have introduced the successor to the EA888 evo3, the EA888 evo4. But, this powertrain is only available with 4-wheel-drive. The latest powertrain already powers the Volkswagen Tiguan 2023 and Skoda Kodiaq 2023.

As per sources, Skoda India’s product planning team have rejected this powertrain for the Octavia and Superb, owing to price and fuel efficiency measures, which leads us to believe Skoda won’t launch the all-new Superb in India. However, in a recent media interaction, Skoda India confirmed that they are working on an update for the Superb sedan, which is likely to launch in India later this year.
