2023 Toyota Century Luxury SUV Revealed In Japan

2023 Toyota Century SUV Breaks Cover In Japan | V3Cars

In a bid to counter the opulence of European luxury SUVs like the Range Rover, Bentley Bentayga and Rolls Royce Cullinan, Toyota have revealed the Century luxury SUV. The Toyota Century SUV will go on sale in Japan initially, and Toyota could even launch it in  international markets, unlike the Century sedan, which is exclusive to the Japanese automotive market.

Toyota Century Luxury SUV Revealed

The Century SUV takes the traditional design cues from the older Century models, including the Phoenix emblem that adorned the Century models from the past. At the front, the Century SUV offers a rectangular grille with a diamond mesh finish. The grille is flanked by split LED headlights that incorporate LED projectors and L-shaped DRLs. The front end of the Century looks flat and boxy and the same design theme continues around the side and rear profiles as well.

The side profile of the Century SUV boasts a flowing character line that begins from the headlights and merges seamlessly with the tail lights. A crease runs below the character line and covers the width of the SUV, before merging with the shutline of the rear bumper. The new Century SUV also boasts 2 rear door options. Customers can either opt for a conventional door or an MPV-like sliding rear door. At the rear, the Century offers split LED tail lights and the Century branding spread across the tailgate.

Toyota Century Luxury SUV Interior And Features

On the inside, the Century showcases the perfect amalgamation of sensibly-crafted interiors and full suite of luxury and features. Like the exterior design, the upright stance can be seen on the inside as well, thanks to a flat and upright dashboard design. The centre of the dashboard holds the large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is likely to offer wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Other features of the Century SUV include power-adjustable driver seat with 3 memory profiles, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charger, colour head-up display, digital inside rear view mirror, powered tailgate, and 18-speaker sound system. The Century is offered exclusively as a 4-seater featuring lounge chairs in the 2nd-row. The lounge seats offer an almost flat recline angle and electric ottoman for extended calf support. Both rear seats can be controlled via a removable touch-enabled control device.

Toyota Century Luxury SUV Powertrain Details

The Century SUV comes with a plug-in-hybrid powertrain only. It makes use of a 3.5L V6 petrol engine and electric motor at each axle, making it 4-wheel drive. The powertrain offers a maximum power output of 412PS, which is far less than its British rivals. However, Toyota insist that the performance is calibrated to offer a superior chauffeur-driven experience. While Toyota haven’t revealed the battery capacity of the plug-in-hybrid system, its claimed electric driving range stands at 69km. Furthermore, it also offers multiple driving modes and rear axle steering.
