Mahindra Thar 5 Door Spied Ahead Of Early 2023 Launch | V3Cars
Mahindra are working on the Thar 5 door and a test mule was spied on the road yet again, revealing a couple of interesting details. It resembles the 3-door Thar, albeit with a longer wheelbase and rear doors.
The new image reveals the side profile of the Thar 5 door. We can clearly see the increase in wheelbase to accommodate 2nd-row forward-facing seats. Looking at the image, we won’t be surprised if Mahindra even offer a 3-row seating option with the Thar 5 door. Furthermore, the Thar 5 door also gets a new design for the alloy wheels and retains the boot-mounted spare wheel.

Another change in the Thar 5 door is the addition of grab handles on the A-pillars. The Thar 3-door doesn’t get grab handles on the A-pillars, making ingress/egress a tad difficult. The Thar 5-door also features a wide running board neatly tucked under the door sills. We expect the Thar 5 door to retain the Thar 3 door’s round headlights, LED tail lights and accentuated wheel arches with body cladding.
Apart from the extra seats, Mahindra are likely to offer new features with the Thar 5 door. These features could include a new infotainment system with connected car tech, 6 airbags, 360-degree parking camera and a sunroof.

In terms of powertrain, we expect the new Thar 5 door to carry the same 2.2L turbo diesel and the 2.0L turbo petrol engine options as the Thar 3 door. However, both engines could offer more power and torque than the Thar 3 door to overcome the extra weight. Both engine options are likely to come with manual and automatic transmission options along with 4-wheel-drive.
The Mahindra Thar 5 door will rival other 5 door 4-wheel-drive SUVs, such as the upcoming Force Gurkha 5 door and Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5 door. It is worth noting that the Gurkha 5 door was recently spied in its production guise, pointing towards an imminent launch. Mahindra are likely to reveal the Thar 5 door in early 2023.
