Update: Hyundai confirmed the engine options of the 2023 Exter on May 8, 2023. This post includes the updated powertrain details based on the currently available information.

In this Exter vs C3 (expected) engine spec comparison, we’ll try to find out which car excels in what aspects of the engine specs. Besides the Citroen C3, the Hyundai Exter will also rival the affordable SUVs like the Maruti Fronx, Nissan Magnite, Tata Punch and Renault Kiger.

Citroen C3 Vs Hyundai Exter - Normal Petrol Engine Spec Comparison (Expected)

The Hyundai Exter 2023 will come with a 1.2L 4-cylinder normal petrol engine with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT automatic transmission. The C3 also has a 1.2L normal petrol engine but with a 3-cylinder layout instead of 4 cylinders, which make a powertrain smoother to drive.

Their performance figures are on par and so are their mileage figures. The thing that hurts the C3’s prospects is the lack of an automatic transmission.

Hyundai Exter Vs Citroen C3 - Turbo Petrol Engine Spec Comparison (Expected)

The Citroen C3 gets a 1.2L turbo petrol engine, which makes 110PS of power and 190Nm of torque. This engine is only available with a 6-speed manual transmission. Hyundai confirmed the engine options of the Exter and a turbo petrol unit was not among the powertrains confirmed for the 2023 Exter.

Hyundai Exter Vs Citroen C3 - CNG Bi-Fuel Engine Spec Comparison (Expected)

Besides the normal petrol-manual and automatic powertrains, Hyundai also confirmed that the Exter will get the CNG bi-fuel option with a manual transmission. While the specs aren’t out yet, we expect its performance figures to align with those of the Nios CNG. So, it could make 69PS of power and 95Nm of torque while claiming to deliver mileage of around 26kmpkg when running on CNG. Meanwhile, the C3 doesn’t get a CNG fuel option.
