Auto Expo 2023 - Hybrid Cars You Can Expect To See

With the EV and alternative fuel segment picking up fast, we expect most carmakers to showcase and launch cars in this segment. You can also expect to see cars with hybrid and flex fuel powertrains at the auto expo 2023. We have put together a list of hybrid vehicles that are likely to feature at the expo.

Hybrid Cars

Toyota Innova Hycross

Innova Hycross

Toyota recently unveiled the Innova Hycross, the next iteration of the Innova, and you’ll find it at the Toyota’s Auto Expo booth.. The Innova Hycross no longer has a diesel engine and uses a monocoque chassis. The Innova Hycross comes with a petrol hybrid engine with an impressive 21.1kmpl mileage figure. With such fuel efficiency figures, the Innova Hycross has a lower running cost than even the Innova Crysta diesel. Check out the fuel cost comparison of both these cars.

In addition to the hybrid powertrain, the new Hycross also gets some noteworthy features like advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), power reclining captain chairs with ottoman in the 2nd row, ventilated front seats and panoramic sunroof. The Hycross is a D-segment MPV and costs between Rs. 18.30 lakh and Rs. 28.97 lakh (ex-showroom). It competes with cars like the Mahindra XUV700 7-seat, Scorpio N, Marazzo, Hyuncai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, Kia Carens, Carnival and Tata Safari.

Toyota Corolla Flex Fuel Hybrid

Corolla

As Toyota recently confirmed, they will showcase a flex fuel vehicle at the 2023 auto expo. As the Corolla is Toyota’s test vehicle for the flex fuel powertrain, we can safely assume that the car maker will present the new Corolla at the fair. Besides its flex fuel compatibility, the Corolla test car also has a hybrid powertrain.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire Hybrid

Dzire 2023

With the recently-launched Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki have shown a good amount of interest in the hybrid powertrain. We expect the carmaker to eventually drain the technology down to cheaper cars and they may show the next-gen Dzire at the Auto Expo. The current Dzire has already completed 6 years in the market and is long due for a refresh.

The current Dzire is a mild hybrid and claims a fuel efficiency of around 22.5kmpl. A strong hybrid will considerably improve the car’s mileage promising a reduced cost of running for potential car buyers. In addition to the new engine, the Dzire is likely to adopt features from the Baleno such as telematics, 360-degree camera, head-up display and 6 airbags.

Toyota Prius

Prius

Any attention is good attention and the Prius gets plenty of it. With the generation update, it has once again become a conversation starter. It was briefly launched in India a few years ago, but hasn’t returned since then. Toyota recently confirmed that they will present a plug-in hybrid vehicle at the auto expo and the Prius is the most likely candidate for this role. The car has a 1.8L strong hybrid engine as per global specs and has a fuel efficiency of 23.8kmpl. In the lenient ARAI tests, it could easily cross 30kmpl.

We do not expect Toyota to launch the Prius in India any time soon, but if they did, it would be fully imported and would cost at least Rs. 60.0 lakh (ex-showroom).

Maruti Suzuki 7-seater SUV

Innova Hycross

Maruti Suzuki have expressed their interest to enter the premium vehicles segment several times. Pricing the new generation Brezza slightly higher, entering the strong hybrid segment and launching the C-segment Grand Vitara are indications that the car maker is already taking steps towards their goal. A year ago, there were rumors suggesting that Maruti Suzuki plan to launch a 7-seater SUV in the D-segment to compete with similar cars.

We already saw Maruti launching the Grand Vitara right after the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Similarly, with Toyota unveiling the new Innova Hycross, we expect Maruti Suzuki to launch their version of the Hycross soon. If not an official launch, Maruti Suzuki are highly likely to showcase the car at the 2023 auto expo. The car will have the same powertrain as the Hycross and will compete with D-segment SUVs like Toyota Hycross, Mahindra Scorpio N, XUV700, Mahindra Marazzo, Kia Carens, MG Hector Plus and Tata Safari.

MG HS

MG HS

Similar to Toyota, MG have also confirmed that they will showcase the HS plug-in hybrid vehicle at the auto expo. The HS gets a 1.5L turbo petrol engine with a 16.6kWh battery pack.

MG will showcase the HS in the auto expo 2023 but we do not expect the car maker to launch the car anytime soon. The MG HS is a D1-segment SUV and is already on sale in the global markets where it competes with the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, Skoda Karoq and Volkswagen Tiguan.
