Hyundai To Launch Ioniq 5 At The 2023 Auto Expo
As per our sources, Hyundai will launch the Ioniq 5 electric crossover SUV at the 2023 Auto Expo. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is based on the South Korean carmaker’s e-GMP modular electric platform and will be locally assembled in India.
Hyundai are testing the Ioniq 5 on our roads extensively and have now confirmed that the Ioniq 5 will feature 350kW DC fast charging capability that can charge its batteries from 0-80% in just 18 minutes. However, the carmaker is yet to reveal the specifications and powertrain details of the India-bound Ioniq 5.

Hyundai’s modular electric platform, the e-GMP, is capable of hosting different body sizes and body styles. In fact, Hyundai have already revealed the second car that’s based on this platform, the Ioniq 6 electric coupe-sedan. Hyundai offer the Ioniq 5 with 2 battery options – 58kWh and 77kWh – in global markets. While Hyundai have not confirmed the battery pack specifications for India, the release confirms that Hyundai will offer the rear-wheel-drive Ioniq 5 initially. Globally, Hyundai offer the Ioniq 5 with both rear- and all-wheel-drive options.

With the 77.4kWh battery pack, the Ioniq 5 offers 228PS (2WD) and 325PS (4WD). The top speed of all Ioniq 5 variants is capped at 185kmph. The 325PS AWD variant of the Ioniq does the 0-100kmph sprint in just 5.1 seconds. The rear-wheel-drive variants offer a maximum range of 507km whereas all-wheel-drive variant offers 481km on a single charge.

Hyundai’s sister brand, Kia, already offer the EV6 in India via the CBU route. Like the Ioniq 5, the EV6 is based on the e-GMP platform and comes with both 2-wheel-drive and 4-wheel-drive options. However, as it is sold as a full import, the EV6 is taxed heavily, resulting in its prices ranging from Rs. 60 lakh to Rs. 65 lakh ex-showroom. The Ioniq 5, on the other hand, is likely to be assembled locally and could come at a considerably lower price tag than the EV6. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 will rival other electric SUVs in the market like the BYD Atto 3, Kia EV6, Volvo XC40 Recharge and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQB.
