Cars And SUVs With Best Ground Clearance Under 7 Lakh
While SUVs are gaining popularity across the world for their road presence, at least for us in India, their high ground clearance means the world to us. It’s the difference between calling for help or towing and getting out of a tricky situation without a scratch. It’s the difference between stopping in the middle of the road and giving it a second thought before entering a water-logged patch and knowing in your heart that your car can get through like a champ. Here are the cars and SUVs with the best ground clearance in the budget of less than Rs. 7.0 lakh (ex-showroom).
1. Renault Kiger - 205mm
Among cars with an ex-showroom price of under Rs. 7.0 lakh, the Renault Kiger has the best ground clearance of 205mm. The Kiger has 4 powertrain options but only the lower 2 variants with the 1.0L normal petrol-manual meet our budget limit.

2. Nissan Magnite - 205mm
The Nissan Magnite shares its powertrain options and frame with the Renault Kiger and offers the exact same 205mm ground clearance. And, just like the Kiger, only the lower 2 variants with the 1.0L normal petrol-manual costs less than Rs. 7.0 lakh (ex-showroom).

3. Tata Punch - 187mm
Besides a high ground clearance of 187mm, the Tata Punch also excels in safety as it has the best GNCAP crash test score in adult safety. The Punch offers the option of a 1.2L normal petrol engine with a manual and an AMT automatic transmission. Only 2 of its lower variants with the manual transmission cost under Rs. 7.0 lakh (ex-showroom).

4. Renault Kwid - 184mm
The Kwid is one of the more affordable cars on this list with a ground clearance of 184mm. Besides a high clearance, the Kwid also has good styling and road presence, especially for the price. All of the Kwid’s variants cost well under Rs. 7.0 lakh (ex-showroom).

5. Renault Triber - 182mm
The Triber is another Renault car on this list and the only one with 3-row seating configuration. It has a 182mm ground clearance and also a large boot space of 625 litres in 5-seater mode. The only notable problem with the Triber is its 1.0L normal petrol engine, which doesn’t have the performance to continuously haul 7 adults at expressway speeds without stressing the engine. We wish it had the option of 1.0L turbo petrol engine and CVT automatic transmission.
Only the Triber’s lower 2 variants cost under Rs. 7.0 lakh to help it reserve a spot on this list. The fairly-loaded costs a shade over Rs. 7.0 lakh.

6. Tata Tiago NRG - 181mm
The Tata Tiago NRG is essentially the Tiago hatchback with a high ground clearance and some exterior cladding. It’s a good choice for buyers interested in a safe car with high ground clearance and a low cost. The Tiago NRG’s 181mm ground clearance is 1mm better than that of the XUV300. The only compromise you have to make is with the transmission as the 2 variants of the NRG under Rs. 7.0 lakh only get the manual transmission. The NRG petrol-automatic is only available in the top variant and costs a fair bit more than Rs. 7.0 lakh.
7. Maruti Nexa Ignis - 180mm
The Ignis is another option for buyers interested in a compact car with high ground clearance and a reasonably powerful engine. Its 180mm ground clearance helps it go over most tall speed breakers while the tall-boy design makes ingress-egress easy even for tall passengers. It’s also surprisingly affordable despite the inflation running rampant. All of its variants except for the top one fits within our Rs. 7.0 lakh budget limit.

8. Citroen C3 - 180mm
The Citroen C3 is another option if you find the Ignis, Tiago NRG and Punch too small for your taste. The C3 offers proper B2-segment dimensions and road presence for not a lot of money. The issue with the C3 is that it doesn’t get an automatic transmission with either of the 2 petrol engines. However, both the variants of the C3 with the normal petrol engine and a manual transmission cost less than Rs. 7.0 lakh (ex-showroom).

9. Maruti Suzuki S-Presso - 180mm
The S-Presso is the most affordable car on this list of cars with high ground clearance. Besides a high ground clearance of 180mm, it also has a stellar mileage figure of around 25kmpl. It’s also the only car on this list with the factory-fit CNG bi-fuel option. All of its variants fall well under our budget cap of Rs. 7.0 lakh (ex-showroom).
