The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, or simply Toyota Hyryder, also shares the platform and powertrain options with the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. In this case, Maruti Suzuki didn’t entirely engineer the car on their own. The 1.5L mild-hybrid petrol engine comes with Maruti’s expertise while Toyota contributed with their expertise with the 1.5L strong hybrid petrol-automatic powertrain.

As you can see, the Maruti-engineered powertrain carries a higher price if you buy it with the Hyryder. Similarly, the Toyota’s hybrid powertrain is available in one extra variant, making it an attractive option for someone who wants a hybrid powertrain at an affordable price. However, the price premium you’re paying for the Vitara hybrid is only Rs. 5,000 over the Hyryder hybrid.

3. Toyota Innova Hycross - Maruti Suzuki Invicto

Maruti Suzuki recently confirmed that they are launching the Invicto, which is a rebadged version of the Toyota Innova Hycross. Just like the Glanza and the Hyryder sharing their platform and powertrains with their Maruti Suzuki siblings, the Invicto will also share the body variant lineup, style, platform and powertrains with the Hycross. However, so far, it’s unclear if the Invicto will also get the same variants and engine options.

Maruti Suzuki opened the bookings for the Invicto on June 19, 2023 but according to the Nexa website, the engine option and variant currently available for booking is only the Alpha Plus with the hybrid powertrain. We’re expecting to see the normal petrol-automatic engine to also make it to the list of the Invicto’s list of powertrain options. Similarly, it should also get the various variants. Otherwise, the price gap between their current flagship car (Grand Vitara Alpha Plus hybrid) and the new flagship could stretch to Rs. 10.0 lakh or more.

In this case, the car is completely engineered and designed by Toyota while the Maruti Suzuki Invicto will carry minor visual differences. So, we should expect some price differences as well between the Invicto and the Hycross. Since it’s a vehicle expertise Maruti Suzuki are borrowing from Toyota, the Invicto could carry a small premium over the Hycross.

3 Maruti Suzuki Cars That May Come To Toyota Dealership

Among the cars Maruti Suzuki already make, there are 3 that may get Toyota's badge. Since there’s no official confirmation about this, we can’t say for sure if the following cars will get a Toyota version:

1. Toyota Taisor (Maruti Suzuki Fronx)
2. Toyota Belta (Maruti Suzuki Ciaz)
3. Toyota Rumion (Maruti Suzuki Ertiga)

Toyota already sell the Belta and Rumion in some international markets but they are not available in India. So, it’s possible that the Ciaz and Ertiga may also get a Toyota version in India in future.

The Taisor is currently not in Toyota’s portfolio - Indian or otherwise. But since Toyota don’t have a B2-segment SUV currently, they may get the Taisor to compete with cars like the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV300. Toyota earlier offered the Urban Cruiser, which was a rebadged version of the previous generation Brezza.
