Overview Of Maharashtra Regional Transport Office
The Regional Transport Authority has established 51 RTOs in Maharashtra to control, manage, and regulate the existing and increasing volume of motor vehicles as well as to implement safety measures. The state has a population of more than 11 crores, and there are over 35 lakh registered motor vehicles.

Documents Required For The Maharashtra Vehicle Registration
The use of unregistered vehicles in the state has been prohibited by the Maharashtra government. Even if a motor vehicle is registered in another state in India, it must undergo registration in Maharashtra before being permitted to be driven on the road.
Here is the list of required documents for registration of transport / personal vehicles in Maharashtra:
- Form 20 is used for RTO registration of a new vehicle.
- Form 21 must be presented along with the sales certificate. The dealer who sold the motor vehicle to the owner must supply them.
- Form 22A must also include the manufacturer's declaration of compliance with safety and pollution standards, as well as roadworthiness.
- If the vehicle to be registered is a goods vehicle, a manufacturer's certificate is also required.
- If the vehicle is a caravan, the Transport Commissioner must approve the design of the vehicle.
- If the car was purchased with lifetime taxes, purchase documentation is required.
- Two copies of the PAN or Form 60 must be submitted for all vehicles except two-wheelers.
- If a person buys a tractor or a caravan, the Tehsildar certificate can be used for tax exemption.
- If the car was purchased out of state, tax payment documentation is required.
- A vehicle insurance certificate is required.
- A document that serves as proof of residence.
- If the vehicle is imported, a receipt must be presented.
