In this variant explained article, you'll find out which variant of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio petrol you should buy based on the price, variant-wise features and value for money. Here we compare and objectively analyse the 2021 Celerio's petrol variants and their features. Then we will compare the engine specs, dimensions and mileage of the 2021 Maruti Suzuki Celerio with its competitors and other petrol-powered B1-segment hatchbacks like Maruti Suzuki WagonR and Hyundai Santro.

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Maruti Suzuki Celerio Petrol?
The pros or advantages of Celerio petrol are:
Mind-boggling mileage figures of 25 - 26.7kmpl
Fairly large dimensions for the segment with a decent ground clearance of 170mm
Simple price structure makes it easy to pick a suitable variant
Maruti’s wide service network and easy availability of parts and skilled labour
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio petrol has the following shortcomings or problems:
No CNG fuel option
The slightly larger and more powerful Tiago costs about the same as the Celerio
Missing features like rear parking camera, adjustable headrests, front centre armrest
What Is The Price Of 2022 Maruti Suzuki Celerio Petrol?
The new 2022 Celerio is available in 4 variants - LXI, VXI, ZXI and ZXI Plus. The Celerio’s prices start from Rs. 4.99 lakh and go up to Rs. 6.44 lakh for the ZXI Plus manual. The top 3 variants also get an optional AMT automatic transmission for an additional Rs. 50,000 premium.

2022 Maruti Suzuki Celerio LXI - Base Model Features & Review
The base LXI variant of the Celerio costs Rs. 4.99 lakh and it’s only available with a manual transmission. It gets the following notable features:
Ball-joint outside mirrors
Idle start/stop
14-inch wheel
Black door handles and mirrors
Body-coloured bumpers
This variant is suitable for buyers who want to stick to a tight budget and don’t want to spend any further. It’s missing a few critical features like a music system, power windows, remote central locking, internally adjustable mirrors, day/night inside mirror. We expect these features from a car at this price. If you can spend more, then you should look at higher variants of the Celerio.
New Maruti Suzuki Celerio LXI vs VXI Variant - Price, Feature Comparison
The VXI variant of the new Maruti Suzuki Celerio costs Rs. 5.63 lakh, which is Rs. 64,000 more than the base LXI variant. The VXI trim is also available with the 5-speed AMT automatic transmission for an additional Rs. 50,000 as it retails for Rs. 6.13 lakh.
For the additional Rs. 64,000, the VXI variant adds the following notable features:
Body-coloured door handles and mirrors
Split rear seatback
Passenger vanity mirror
Power mirrors
day/night inside mirror
Wheel covers
All power windows
Rear parcel tray
While this variant has a bunch of must-have features, it’s still missing a music system, steering-mounted controls, remote central locking and adjustable steering wheel. Moreover, the price jump of Rs. 64,000 doesn’t justify upgrading to the Celerio VXI over the LXI. If you are on a tight budget, then you should consider buying and accessorising the LXI variant or choose a higher variant for better value for money.
Maruti Suzuki Celerio VXI vs ZXI Variant - Price, Feature Comparison
The price difference between the new Celerio’s VXI and ZXI variant is Rs. 31,000 for the manual as well as the automatic transmission. The Celerio ZXI manual costs Rs. 5.94 lakh while the ZXI automatic costs Rs. 6.44 lakh.
The price jump to the ZXI variant is small, and it adds some must-have features like:
Remote central locking
Adjustable steering
Steering-mounted controls
Music system
Rear defogger
Rear washer wiper
Compared to the incremental cost difference between the base LXI and the ZXI variant, the more expensive ZXI variant is not a great value for money. But, it’s still a far better option than the VXI and offers many must-have features for the asking price.
You may still miss adjustable headrests, power-folding mirrors, height-adjustable driver seat, auto AC and front armrest. But, the ZXI is suitably loaded compared to other variants and has a good value for money. For Celerio manual and automatic buyers, the ZXI variant is our top recommendation.
Maruti Suzuki Celerio ZXI vs ZXI Plus Variant - Price, Feature Comparison
The top-spec ZXI Plus variant adds Rs. 50,000 to the ex-showroom price of the lower ZXI variant. It’s also available with a manual as well as an AMT automatic, with the latter costing an additional Rs. 50,000.
The Celerio ZXI Plus variant costs Rs. 6.44 lakh with the manual and Rs. 6.94 lakh with the automatic.
The top model of the Celerio adds the following notable features:
Touchscreen
Android Auto
Apple Carplay
Fog lamps
Power folding mirrors
Keyless entry and push-button start/stop
15-inch alloy wheels.
Height adjustable driver seat
Considering the cost of high-value features like keyless entry, touchscreen and alloy wheels, the ZXI Plus variant of the new Celerio manages to offer the best value for money compared to the lower variants. However, most of these features are not in the must-have category. So, we’ll leave it up to you to decide if you should upgrade to the top model or not. The ZXI variant of the Celerio earns our top recommendation.
Which Variant Of The 2022 Maruti Suzuki Celerio Should You Buy?
Among the new 2022 Celerio’s petrol manual variants, the base variant is suitable for budget buyers. You can buy this trim and add some accessories to improve the ownership experience. The VXI offers poor value for money. You’re better off skipping this option. Either jump to a higher variant or buy the base LXI trim.

The ZXI variant offers much better value for money than the VXI trim but is not enough to justify the asking price. However, we’ll still recommend this variant to most buyers as it offers a good balance of value and must-have features. The ZXI Plus top variant is the best value for money option and totally worth upgrading. However, it doesn’t add compelling features to warrant an upgrade.
For the Maruti Celerio automatic buyers also, the ZXI variant is an easy recommendation. It doesn’t cost all that much over the VXI trim and has a lot of must-have features, easily justifying the Rs. 31,000 price gap over the VXI AMT. The top variant is a good value for money option, but it doesn’t have enough must-have features to earn our top recommendation. If you want those features in your car, then you can buy the top model.
What Are The Engine Specifications Of The Maruti Suzuki Celerio Petrol?
In terms of engine specs, the 2022 Celerio stands out with a mind-blowing mileage figure of around 25 - 26.7kmpl. This is unheard of from a petrol car. Until a few years ago, such mileage figures from a diesel car too sounded unreal. Getting such official mileage figures from a petrol car speaks volumes about Maruti Suzuki’s engineering prowess.

As far as the other specs go, the Celerio’s power and torque output are on par with the 1.0L engine option from the rivals. However, the WagonR 1.2L manages to outperform, thanks to the larger displacement.
What Are The Dimensions Of The Maruti Suzuki Celerio?
The new Celerio is longer and wider than the WagonR and the Santro and has better ground clearance too. However, it can’t beat the WagonR’s height and boot space. The Maruti Celerio also has larger wheel sizes as it gets 14-inch wheels in lower variants and 15-inch wheels in higher variants.
What Are The Colour Options Of The 2021 Maruti Suzuki Celerio?
The 2021 Celerio is available in the following 6 colour options:
